Poplar Recreation Ground is a popular local park next to the fire station on East India Dock Road. The rec is a great lunch spot when the weather is nice, with bright flower borders and lots of picnic benches. It also has lots of sports facilities including a bowling green, 5-a-side football pitch and 2 tennis courts which can be booked on the Tower Hamlets Tennis Website for £6.
The memorial in the centre of the park was built in memory of the 18 children killed during a daylight bombing at Poplar’s Upper North Street School.
