Welcome to the first in our new series of EnterprisePPLR blogs! In this section we’ll be providing you with weekly features and interviews with local Poplar businesses who have signed up for EnterprisePPLR, our brand new listing service.
Our first interview is with Shahena, owner of The Flower Boutique store in Chrisp Street Market. We stopped by this week to ask for a few words about flowers, alongside what her time working in Poplar has been like…
Can you tell us a little bit about your business, how you started, and how long you’ve been in poplar for?
I used to do flower arranging as a hobby only, but I took a course with a company called Flower Power a while back to see if I could take it any further than that. I noticed that there weren’t any florists in Chrisp Street Market so I thought it would be a good opportunity to set up a shop.
Before I opened my business I did a course with Poplar HARCA’s pop up business school, which really motivated me to take the risk and get my business set up. I’ve been here for one and a half years now and do indoor and outdoor plants for every kind of occasion!
What’s your favourite thing about Poplar?
The community here is great; everyone here is nice and friendly. I hope that going forward my shop gives everybody the confidence to go out and try something new!
What’s your favourite flower?
Fuchsias, because they’re lovely, they smell nice and they’re fragrant. You can place them anywhere in your home or garden, and if you mix them with eucalyptus they give off an even lovelier sweet smell!
We’ll be looking for new businesses to interview in the coming months so if you’re interested contact us at info@mypplr.com and we’ll look into setting something up. Make sure you’ve uploaded a free business listing with us though!
